Frölunda is Europe's champion
Frölunda Gothenburg is the champion of the Champions Hockey League 2015/16. In a entertaining final, the Indians beat Kärpät Oulu by 2:1. ERC Ingolstadt, eliminated by Frölunda in the round of the best 32 in a thrilling series, would like to congratulate the new title-holder.
Oulu had home-advantage in the final but it war Frölunda to get the better start. Kärpät goalie Sami Aittokallio had quite something to do, e.g. protecting his team against Niklas Lasu's shorthander. Frölunda got the lead with a double-strike late in the first period. Ryan Lasch and Spencer Abbott both redirected blueliners in the slot versus the net (17. and 18.).
Frölunda was the more structured and more clever team. Oulu started to play more physical in the second period but hardly created chances in front of their opponents' net. With 12 minutes to go, after two powerplays, Juho Keranen filled the hosts with hope, making it 1:2, but in the end Frölunda won.
Ryan Lasch finished as CHL's topscorer and was also announced MVP of this season.
