Vinschgau Cup: Three teams announced
ERC Ingolstadt, Kölner Haie and EC-KAC Klagenfurt have been announced as the first three starters in Vinschgau Cup 2018. The pre-season-tournament will take place from August 24-26 in Latsch/Laces (South Tyrol, Italy). The fourth and ultimate contender will be released in the next weeks.
ERC Ingolstadt is co-founder and co-host of the tournament and will already be in Latsch/Laces for its training camp in the days before the tournament. The Panthers, as named by their fans, have won the DEL-title in 2014 and finished 4th in the past main round. Stars of the team are e.g. the German national goalie Timo Pielmeier and sniper Thomas Greilinger.
Kölner Haie are one of Europe's big names in hockey. Eight German titles and two international championships show their renomée. The team with players such as the Swedish goalie Gustaf Wesslau and forward Felix Schütz finished the German DEL in six spot in last season and is hungry for more in 2018/19.
EC-KAC, traditionally known as Klagenfurter AC, are Austria's record holder with 30 national championships. It will be interesting to see how the newly formed organisation with head coach Petri Matikainen will come out into the new season.
Vinschgau Cup
The very first Vinschgau Cup was hold in 2016, with Ingolstadt, Black Wings Linz (Austria) and Langnau Tigers (Switzerland) competing for the cup. Ingolstadt tried to defend it in 2017 but Färjestad BK (Sweden) and also Linz deflected that.
The tournament is known as first class pre-season-tournament with a family atmosphere. The rink: IceForum Latsch with a capacity of about 500 spectators.
