Panthers start with a win
The Panthers have started into this year's Champions Hockey League with a 5:2-victory. Opponent Braehead Clan, however, gave Ingolstadt a tough fight. Panthers-Coach Manny Viveiros says: "The key to success today was our powerplay."
It was Braehead Clan to score the first of all together five powerplay-goals of the evening. Matt Keith, former player of Ingolstadt, scored the lead after 15 minutes, giving the shot of Ric Jackman another direction. The Scottish team had the several good oportunities, also in the second period. The two goalkeepers - Chris Holt for the away-team and Marco Eisenhut for Ingolstadt - showed their skills in various moments. Holt for example stopped Thomas Greilinger who had got an excellent pass from puck-robber Alex Barta (24.).
Ingolstadt, with a lot of preasure in the second period due to powerplays, turned the game in front of 2500 spectators thanks to Petr Taticek. The first-line-forward managed to score twice (27. PP and 39. PP2) to give the Panthers the lead after 40 Minutes.
Chris Bruton (46.) helped Braehead Clan to come back on 2:2 but - as guest coach Ryan Finnerty says - the "fatigue" of his team made the difference in the last period. John Laliberte with the gamewinner(48. PP) and a second goal (53.) helped the Panthers to win with Greilinger scoring the final goal to make it 5:2 for the Panthers.
After the game as before, fans of the two teams came together for a fanfest at Donaustrand. The Scottish-Bavarian day will be remembered by Braehead-supporters as well as Panther-fans. What a beautiful beginning of the new CHL-season.
The Panthers will now face twice Swedish champions Växjö Lakers. Tickets for the homegame in Saturn Arena are now availible under www.erc-ingolstadt.de/tickets
