Racing star Ekström in Panther-practice

It has been ten years that Mattias Ekström has visited ERC Ingolstadt for the first time - just to become DTM-champion for the second time in the season 2007. On Wednesday, the current Rallycross World Champion has practiced again with the Panthers having a nice day-off from his preparations on the new season. "Tomorrow, muscles I generally do not use that much might hurt a little", said the Swedish racing star with a grin. "At the same time, I had a ton of fun during practice. Great guys, a jersey with my numbre 5 and good conversations."
Especially with Tommy Samuelsson, headcoach of ERC Ingolstadt, Ekström chatted quite a while. Not only because of having the same mother tongue, as he says: "Tommy is well known in Sweden. As kids and juveniles, we watched a lot of hockey and Tommy was one of the stars in the Swedish league. My cousin was a fan of his team, Färjestad." Ekström and Samuelsson exchanged their mobile numbres and will stay in contact. "My son has just started with hockey", says Ekström. "When possible, we will come to the rink and cheer for Ingolstadt. I am looking forward to seeing the Panthers again."

Mattias Ekström is a racing star. In the upcoming season, he is looking for the title in both his Rallycross-SuperCar (Audi S1, almost 600 PS) and in the DTM-series (Audi A5). As on the track, Ekström had a great performance on the ice, too. Being filmed by a team of TV channel Sport1, he showed what he has learnd in his youth in Sweden and combined it with recommendations of the pro-hockey-players from Ingolstadt. Then, it was time for Ekström to show the puck-hunters a special training-unit in the fitness chamber of Saturn Arena: "I might just have one muscle that is stronger than yours - and that is my neck muscle. I would say you can need a strong one, too, to stand hard hits with ease." So both Ekström and the Panthers had a great time at the hockey rink and hopefully, it will be again the beginning for a succesful racing season for Mattias Ekström. Best luck!
